Help Keep Them Healthy

For the past two years, we have been fortunate that our program pups have remained healthy, with veterinary expenses limited to routine care—wellness visits, vaccinations, preventative medications (heartworm, flea, and tick), and spay/neuter procedures. We have worked hard to be thoughtful stewards of every donated dollar while ensuring our dogs receive the high-quality veterinary care they deserve.

In recent weeks, however, we’ve encountered our first significant medical challenge. One of our young Labrador pups began experiencing lameness, requiring diagnostic evaluation to determine whether it was simply “growing pains” or something more serious. As a result, she has needed specialized orthopedic veterinary care.

The total cost of her treatment is expected to reach just over $4,000.

There is good news— this young dog's future as a service dog is still possible - just heavy mobility is off the table for her. Also, our veterinary partners have generously offered discounts of 20–25% on their services, and we do have funds available to cover these expenses.

However, using those funds impacts our overall operating budget, and it is important that we replenish them as quickly as possible.Looking ahead, we would like to establish a dedicated Veterinary Medical Fund to ensure we are prepared for situations like this without diverting resources from our daily operations.
