As we approach the end of May, and the filing of our first IRS 990, our focus is on our finances. Do Unto Others Assistance Dogs started just over a year ago and all those “start up” expenses are coming due again. Things like renewing our Post Office box ($166),renewing our insurance - General Liability and Directors’ and Operators’ Liability ($1,214.75), replenishing office and operating supplies - thank you cards, toner, postage, new logo stickers and a new banner. It all adds up. And we still need to buy food, and preventative medications for our four program dogs - AUGUST, AUTUMN, RUSH and BEACON. A six-month supply of Simparica Trio, at a discounted price, is about $100 / dog. A bag of quality dog food goes fast with growing dogs, lasting about 6 - 8 weeks and costing about $80 a bag. Believe me, we’d rather be focusing on raising and training dogs - but it’s all part of the business.
Our business doesn’t “make money”; our business is serving others. In order to continue our mission we have to fundraise, and if you’re reading this, YOU could be an answer to our prayers, or you might know the person that is! Right now, Do Unto Others Assistance Dogs has ten supporters who have agreed to set up monthly recurring donations that bring in $105 each month and we sincerely appreciate that kind of support!

One of the ways we’ve chosen to fundraise is by making an “ask” on the 5th Friday of each of the months this year with five Fridays - January, May, August, and October. Our January $5 Friday brought in almost $1000!! We’re hoping you can help us set that bar a little higher with our May 30th Five Dollar Friday. Please consider if you could add to that faithful ten who donate monthly - $5, $10, $20 each month makes a real difference.
Yes, your donations help - a LOT, but you can also help by spreading the word about the work we’re trying to do. Share the newsletter with a friend when it comes out in June; show a neighbor the article in Lake Mary Life -page 65; https://online.flippingbook.com/view/677930450/ invite one of us to come talk to your civic or church group. The more people who know about us, the larger our pool to draw from. Until a large corporate donor shows up, we’re depending on those small, regular donations - they are our lifeline. The key is finding a way to get more of them and you might just be that key.
